While in exile, Marti wrote prolifically for Spanish-language Latin American newspapers, mostly about the United States and the necessity of defending and nurturing Latin American culture, and he organized what he hoped would be the revolutionary army that would at last free Cuba.
Tylervt This is composed of miniature essays I had to write for social studies class. More notes are enclosed in the story. Fiction T - English - Tragedy - Words: They are about this book called Our America: All quotes are from the book. Our America Pgs The following quotes and explanations show how different life was like there.
Do you hear Our america book essay talk about some of the things they see that you didn't see at a young age? I have some of my students who know more about gangs, guns, and sex than I do, because they have observed things.
I have kindergartners who can tell you about sexual intercourse…" This quote is really fascinating. The first thing a little more expected than the second.
First there are kids in this school, in the neighborhood, that know more about gangs, guns, and sex than the principal does.
First of all it should not be that way and second of all its not a good thing. This part of the quote shows that the people in the South Side have been subject to terrible things. The second part of the keywords which is absolutely amazing is that kindergartners can explain sexual intercourse. I do not care where you live, who you are, your socio economic position, kindergartners should not be able to explain sexual intercourse.
That is just not the way it should be. Especially backing before all the media about sex boomed. I agree that one day kindergartners across the country will be able to explain it, but the bottomline is it should not be that way.
Another thing I noticed were the character's attitudes in this book. No one's gonna be alive in twenty more years.
The sad thing which I noticed was the attitude of the drug dealer. He said he was not going to be alive in ten years. This person is only a child, and children should be positive, and he believes he will not be alive in ten years. How would children from the North Shore feel if they thought they were not going to be alive in ten years.
I agree if I was living in that area that I should be aware of all the dangers to try to avoid them, and the dangers would probably interfere with my daily life but there is no reason to not have faith in my life expectancy just because of these dangers. What was interesting was the kids compared their neighborhood to Vietnam.
I found it interesting that he compared the South Side to "Vietnam" specifically during the Vietnam war. I will admit they are both terrible places to live at times and I do not really no which is worse but I think first of all its an unfair comparison.
This is partly due to these children's attitudes towards life in their neighborhood. This is just another showing of how bad life was and can still be in the South Side of Chicago.
I also thought the irony in the book was interesting. Kicking It pg 47 The storyteller tells that growing up in the ghetto is fun yet dangerous.Visit our Writing Center to find tried and true tips for developing a thesis, structuring your essay correctly, and writing with clarity.
